Jamie Turner

Literacy Specialist

Education
B.A., English Literature and Writing – Minor in American Sign Language – University of California, San Diego

Jamie was born and raised in Portland, Oregon, where she grew up surrounded by nature and spent her summers at wilderness camps. Her love for language began in high school, where she excelled in AP and Honors English and Math. While tutoring students during the pandemic, she realized her gift for teaching and her passion for education.

Jamie pursued her studies at the University of California, San Diego, earning her B.A. in English Literature and Writing with a minor in American Sign Language. As she became fluent in ASL, she developed a deep passion for language itself—how it shapes connection, accessibility, and the ways people communicate and learn. This experience fueled her commitment to helping others communicate clearly and feel understood. At UCSD, she served as president of the ASL Club, while also working in childcare and pet care. She graduated with Departmental Honors with Highest Distinction after completing her honors thesis in Creative Writing.

She is deeply honored and excited to work with Jodie K. Schuller at Therapies for Success. Jamie hopes her work as a Literacy Specialist will inspire students to discover the same love for reading and writing that she has always had.

In her free time, Jamie enjoys caring for her chinchilla, StellaLuna, and her new kitten, Suki. She also loves snorkeling and reading monster novels (Dracula is her favorite!).
