Jodie Schuller grew up in Minnesota and completed her undergraduate work in education at the University of Minnesota, Duluth. Immediately after graduation she decided to experience a winter without freezing temperatures — she moved to Arizona and taught elementary school in Phoenix for a couple of years before relocating to San Diego for graduate school. Jodie completed her graduate degree in Communicative Disorders at San Diego State and then remained in the area and started her career in speech-language pathology in this city she grew to love.
Having a background in education, Jodie’s practice grew from the belief that the public school system was not prepared to meet the needs of the overwhelming number of children who were struggling to read, write and interact socially. Jodie soon broadened her practice to include literacy and social interaction.
A speech pathology practice would not be effective without focusing on the resting posture of the lips and tongue. That prompted Jodie to become certified by the International Association of Orofacial Myology and start offering tongue thrust therapy as well. That field has opened new doors for Jodie and her staff and, especially, their clients. With an abundance of recent research proving that tongue thrust disorders are related to TMJ disorders, bedwetting and even sleep apnea, JKS & Associates will continue to focus on unhealthy resting postures and work to resolve and prevent these serious health conditions.
Jodie recently received acknowledgement for her efforts from San Diego Magazine. She was selected as one of San Diego’s Women of the Year Nominees in 2015.
When Jodie is not working, she enjoys spending time at her home with her husband, Kenny, their double doodle, Delilah (Deedee) and tonkinese cat, Hugo. She also enjoys reading, traveling and walking on the beach.
