Susan was born and raised in Southwestern Virginia, where her grandfather instilled in her an early love for reading and learning. She earned her BA from Marshall University and her MA from The George Washington University. She spent most of her life on the East Coast providing speech-language services in Ohio, West Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland across a variety of settings.
After observing that many of her clients with speech and language disorders also had problems with reading and written language, Susan returned to school to learn more about the language and literacy connection. She earned her PhD from the University of Kentucky, where her concentration was pediatric language and literacy disorders.
Several years ago, Susan retired from University teaching and moved to San Diego to be closer to her children and grandchildren. As a part-time clinician with Jodie K. Schuller and Associates, she particularly enjoys working with those who are experiencing difficulties with speech-sound production, receptive and expressive language, stuttering, and literacy development.
Outside of work, Susan's passions include spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also finds time for reading, eating a variety of cuisines and staying calm.
